Mack Avenue Community Church

This outreach is an opportunity to come alongside Mack Avenue Community Church (MACC) and their vision of reaching the marginalized and poor of Detroit. One of their guidelines for outreach is “Instead of giving out fish, we want our service projects in the community to teach people how to fish. Our aim is to help them in establishing their identity as image bearers of Christ.”

One method used by MACC is to capture the attention of the community with their Corner Store. Mack Ave. provides a place for the community to shop for food and necessities that aren’t always easily accessible to them. They have two goals in mind with this outreach:
1) promote dignity, and
2) empower individuals while bringing resources to the community.
The goods are not given away, but sold to them at a greatly reduced price.

As a volunteer, you would interact with the people of the community and distribute goods. Also, donations of goods are accepted.
