What if we told you that this same country faces higher maternal and child mortality rates than the rest of its Central American counterparts because of water contamination and insufficient healthcare, leading to parasites, diarrhea, and malnutrition? Would you try to help?
Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America. The staggering and bleak statistics regarding mortality, healthcare, water contamination, and malnutrition define the future of the country and its youth, offering little hope to those living in extreme poverty.
But you can make a difference. Each trip will focus on building modern bathrooms and installing water systems in homes, providing hope to those struggling to survive each day. Imagine the message a young child could receive from you simply by giving your time and talent to bring water into their home.
I was born in one of the poorest regions of Nicaragua. Because my parents didn’t register me with the government, I could not attend school or access government services. Many girls like me must turn to prostitution to eat.
Amigos for Christ has helped me register with the government. I now attend school and have the prospect of work. Through a partnership with our church and community leaders, we are learning what it looks like to live in a proper relationship with God and each other.
